Nine days after receiving my GLS Jetta wagon, the windshield developed a 12” crack while parked in the Florida sun. The crack originated at bottom center of windshield below the trim and extended up and towards the passenger side. Took it to dealer next day to get subject crack on the record and was told the local VW rep has to approve all glass claims. He was due the following week but never shows uphe told dealer to take photos. The original crack has now extended an additional 12” on two different occasions.
Yesterday, while parked, a second crack started behind the vertical trim on the passenger side snaking its way inwards. I’m off to the dealer this morning. Is this just a fluke caused by thermal stress and a bad window or have others experienced similar problems? Less than a month after I got my Jetta wagon a crack developed on the lower windshield, passenger side. Took it to dealer and he located a tiny chip less than an inch above the hood and said a stone must have hit it. I can not see how a stone could have reached that spot. As I have insurance with zero deductable, I did not argue and would wait until spring to replace it.
I replaced it last week at the dealership so that it would be a VW window, although Allstate did not like the idea. I think it must be awfully thin glass as it got two more chips during the next three months. My '91 Jetta went 11 years w/o one chip. It's not a common event but it's known to happen. After nine days, it's a black-and-white case. I'd say that I can't believe that they'd give you any trouble with this, but - then again - this is a VW dealer we're talking about. I don't thinkreplacing your windshield will raise your rates.
